The Essence of the Mercurian Nomad
The moniker "Nomad" evokes a sense of continuous motion, a wandering spirit, much like Mercury which zips around the Sun in just 88 days. Being the closest planet to the Sun, Mercury endures extreme conditions, yet it remains unwavering in its trajectory. Its perpetual motion and proximity to the Sun make it a symbol of endurance, resilience, and adaptability.
Much like a nomad, who's constantly on the move, exploring, and adapting, this pendant invites the wearer to embrace change, seek out new horizons, and find beauty in the journey.
Our design process started with sketches that echoed the stark, moonlike landscapes of Mercury, the smallest planet, scarred by countless collisions yet standing as a captivating testament to the solar system's violent ballet. We looked into the past of the planet, reflecting on the constant collision with comets and meteorites that stripped it of lighter elements, leaving behind a dense heart. This narrative was woven into the pendant’s design, with the square-cut emerald representing the planet's heart.
The 3mm square-cut emerald at the core of the Mercurian Nomad necklace serves as a nod to the mythological connections to Mercury, the swift messenger of the gods in Roman lore, who was akin to the Greek deity Hermes. Historically, emeralds have been associated with foresight and youth, qualities befitting the planet known for its speedy orbit. This gemstone is the birthstone of May, symbolizing the renewal and rebirth that spring brings.

Vermeil is the regulated term used to describe gilded silver. It refers to jewelry with a pure sterling silver base covered with a thick layer of solid gold. With a gold plating 5x thicker than average gold plated pieces, gold vermeil is perfect for everyday wear when worn with care.
At Tafein, our pieces are cast with a thick 2.5 micron layer of 18K Gold on 925 Sterling Silver, making it an affordable but durable alternative to solid gold. Featuring a base crafted with a precious metal, the designs are hypoallergenic and nickel-free.
